Eel learning

Today for literacy a woman came into the class and talked to us about eels.

We learned where eels live in New Zealand and other species like white bait.
She also told us about how we can keep them alive and how they are dying, and told us that they grow up in creeks and streams then go out to the ocean to Tonga and lay their eggs and then die.
She told us that old females can lay up to 1million eggs but less then 2% make it back alive due to sharks, drafts and other fish. When the liitle eels make it back they grow up in banks and rivers then do the same again. There are 3 types of fish species called, eels, galaxiids and bullies.

Do you know anything bout eels?

  1. Thank you Nick, this seems like it is going to be an interesting learning experience for our literacy group. I liked how you have remembered all of the factual details from the talk. I think the little eels are called 'glass eels'. I like your attention to detail in highlighting the important facts. Mīharo.
